Joy Division singer Ian Curtis must have been a really nice guy. In Control Anton Corbijn shows us the way how Curtis used to help mentally challenged people to find a job. If only he had only looked at the bright side a little more often he would still be able to enrich the world with his music and performance. It was astonishing to see the passion, pain and talent of Curtis on stage. Sam Riley should never act anymore. It’s hardly impossible to top this role.

Andy Warhol. Other Voices, Other Rooms

The Stedelijk in Amsterdam brings the world a new view on one of the most influential artists of last century. According to some also the most overrated one. Let me try to explain this paradox here. Stedelijk has chosen to focus on Warhols movies. Result? First time all his movies are show under one roof. Back in the seventies they were revolutionary. That’s to Andy’s credit. But now, well, they’re somewhat dull. One thing is still exciting though: the band he produced. Check out the Velvet Underground!

Music: Moke – Shorland

I hereby present you the Dutch answer to the Editors. Moke’s album Shorland is all about the troubled youth of singer Felix Maginn in the divided Northern-Ireland. On October 5th I was lucky enough to see these guys in action. Their sound was so refined and majestic that it didn’t suit the small establishment they played in. You don’t hear me complain though. In five years I’ll be able to tell I’ve seen those world-famous musicians from 1 metre distance.
